Kerkman & Dunn concentrates in complex business litigation, environmental and transaction matters. Frequently, the opposition is on the verge of bankruptcy or insolvency. The principals of Kerkman & Dunn have litigated issues involving trade secrets, copyright infringement, theft of an internet web site, fraud, noncompetition agreements, commercial law, wrongful competition, nondischargeability in bankruptcy court, fraudulent transfers as well as acted in significant roles in Chapter 11 cases. Kerkman & Dunn was founded in 2007, although Mr. Kerkman has practiced since 1984 and Mr. Dunn since 1985. Prior to forming the firm, the principals had considerable "big firm" experience. Mr. Kerkman was with Quarles & Brady, a national firm with approximately 300 lawyers, and Mr. Dunn was with Michael Best & Friedrich, a regional firm of approximately 200 lawyers. Both Mr. Kerkman and Mr. Dunn have received the highest rating of "AV" by the nationally recognized rating service of Martindale-Hubbell. It has grown from the two principals, to having five associates.

The firm's clients frequently come from referrals by large Milwaukee law firms, and firms from outside Wisconsin, which are unable to provide the representation and want quality representation and excellent personal service for their clients.
